Summer

In the summer when the days are hot,
I like to find a shady spot,
And hardly move a single bit
And sit, and sit, and sit, and sit.

Bible Church News

Maddie Goes To Mexico
Maddie left for Mexico July 29th with a group from her church. They stayed in the La Posada Mission Center, which is near Rosearita. While there, they did two outreaches, a church service for the locals, built a house for a family and spent time in an orphanage. It was a busy week but one that Maddie will never forget.

Summer Gardens

All of the Sinsley clan was been busy with continued summer projects. Curtiss did some major landscaping to the front of their place. He built an awesome brick retaining wall, put down weed control cloth and decoration rock in the front flower beds, added some grass and moved a few plants. While Curtiss was working in the front, Ariel worked on her little farm in the backyard.

The Blacks, with the older Sinsley's help, added more rock to their path and put in another flower bed. While Shari, Barb and the kids worked on the path, Jim and Gardner finished working on the insulator fence that provides an entry to their place.

Barb did her usual planting and caring for her gardens. No new major projects this year. She and Jim did find an old copper washing machine on one of their Antiquing trips, which they turned into another water feature for the deck.

The younger Sinsley's worked on their gardens and the pad for the Hot Tub.

Gimlin Family News

Gimlin's have a new roommate. Shari's old next door neighbor Atasha has moved in with the family. She is a really sweet girl and Ariel thinks it's fun to have a houseful of young adults, but could it be that she really enjoys having another female in a house with nothing but males?

Cory and Dustin both quit their jobs, things were not working out, but they now have new ones and are busy with friends and dates.

They have been busy boating and riding motorcycles, doing the summer fun things.

Trip To Oregon Coast

The older Sinsleys took a trip to the Oregon Coast with Sharon and Sara.  They tried something new and rented a KOA cabin. It was pretty neat, like camping but with hard walls and a bed. The only problem , it was small and very cozy. Poor Sara had to sleep with her headphones on because of all the snoring! On the way to the coast they stopped in a few antique stores and visited with friends in Albany. The cabin was located in Waldport, about 15 miles from Newport. The group spent the better part of a week traveling up and down the coast, visiting light houses, beach combing, antiquing and spent a day at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. The trip home was spent visiting many antique stores and the van was packed solid by the time it reached Coeur d'Alene!

Prairie Dog 4-H Club

This month was a busy time for the Prairie Dogs. All the kids were busy getting projects ready for the fair.  ( See Fair News) Maddie was sewing and Sara, James and Micah were busy showing rabbits at area rabbit shows. James' pig was getting fat and so was Maddie's lamb. Sara was busy training her goat to walk with a leash.

Kootenai County Fair

The month of August brought the much awaited fair and with it the ending of many summer projects for the family.  Needing to be near the animals, Shari, Ariel and kids camped at the fairgrounds for the week. Because Barb and Jim live near the fair, they provided showers and laundry service. Here is an accounting from family members about their personal experiences at the fair.

Ariel: I spent most of my time in the goat barn. (Ariel was one of the barn managers) Other than feeling guilty about Shari getting stuck with the cooking, I really enjoyed it. I love these kids and the goats are cool too! ( Ariel's chickens won both red and blue ribbons in the open class.)

Darcy: We spent an evening at the fair, it was fun looking at the exhibits and watching the kids show their animals.

Sara: It was neat, even with the rain, sore back and the tent blowing down. I showed rabbits and goats. I made it to the finalists with my rabbit and received a blue ribbon.  In goats,  I got 3 blue ribbons ( one for showmanship) and my goat took Grand Champion for goats not in milk.

Maddie: Well it was our first fair, what can I say. Our tent blew down twice, my sleeping bag and all my clothes got wet one night in the rain and we had no ice most of the time. It was fun though. I won 2 blues with my lamb (one was for showmanship) and a red and blue for my skirt that I made. I won the blue in the dress review. I was also lucky, the people that bought my lamb are not going to butcher her. They are going to keep her for breeding.

Barb: For the first time, I entered some of my flowers and vegetables. I did very well, most won either first, second or a third place ribbons.  My carrots, which I was not going to bother with and at the last minute changed my mind, won a special award from Tidyman's grocery store. I had fun doing the Grandma thing and watching the kids show their animals. It sure brought back some old memories.

Some side notes: James won a blue ribbon for his pig and 4th over all with his rabbit. Micah won blue ribbons for his chickens, blue for his rabbits and his goat made it to the finalists where it took 4th overall in the non-milking category. The Prairie Dogs did very well. In the non-milking goat category, they took, Grand Champion, 3rd and 4th overall. In sewing one of the girls in the club made it to the finals and took a 3rd place overall at the dress review. As a first year club they did very well and should be proud of their efforts.
