Ground hog graphic Flash: Punxsutawney Phil Sees His Shadow

Legend of Ground Hog Day is based on an old Scottish couplet:
"If Candlemas Day is bright and clear, there'll be two winters a year."

An old English saying:
If Candlemas be fair and bright,
                                    Winter has another flight.
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,
                                    Winter will not come again.

On Ground Hog Day, North Idaho was greeted with beautiful morning sun that turned the snow into millions of glittering diamonds, by late afternoon we had about 3 inches of snow.  Go figure! Only in Idaho!

Greetings From North Idaho
This is the first edition of the Panhandle Poop. Monthly, the Sinsley Family plans to publish the latest "poop" to let anyone interested in what's happening in North Idaho. Family pictures

Sheyenne Dances for Heritage House
Sheyenne's dance group put on a program for a local senior home.  Since it was next door to where Sharon lives, she was able to see the performance. Sheyenne is taking tap from Susie's Tap & Jazz Studio. Have you ever seen 4 year olds tap dance? Too cute for words!

Maddie Goes to Teen Retreat
people graphicMaddie joined 297 other area teens at Riverview Bible Camp for a weekend retreat called X Games. The speaker was Clayton King from North Carolina. The focus for his message and the retreat was about extreme witnessing. She had a fun time and learned more about her role as a young Christian.

Jesus Loves You Dolls
Ariel is continuing to make dolls. What started as a desire to make dolls for the 33 orphans she met in China is turning into a full-time ministry. She will include a separate report for those of you who want more information and may want to be involved in this unbelievable project. God truly is expanding our territory.

Where is God?
by Maddie Black

A plane hits-many will die
Another hits-people begin to cry
Where is God?
A third plows into the pentagon
Plane number four crashes- many more are gone
Where is God?
Rescuers rush in-the buildings fall
Our country mourns-death has touched us all
Where is God?
Churches open- people come to pray
People are found in the rubble-alive they stay
Here is God!
Chorus' of God Bless America ringing in the air
Proving to one and all- terrorists we will not fear
Here is God!
Peace will come to those in pain
For as sure as the sunshine after rain
GOD IS HERE!

May all those who were touched by September 11th, let you know, God is there.

Papa and Grandma Play Barbie's and Cars
Papa and Grandma baby sat the little ones for a weekend while Mom and Dad had a break.  Sheyenne and grandma had a fun time playing Barbie's.  Grandma got out her sewing machine and we made new covers and pillows for the Barbie beds. Papa and Logan played race cars.  We made cookies and watched movies. They all had a good time but Grandma was in bed by 8:30 Sunday night!

Another House Dad!

Curtiss is enjoying being semi-retired from the satellite business and a full-time house dad.

This time of year is usually so slow and he has been blessed with the time to draw closer to God and catch up on the million things there are to do around the Gimlin house!

girl fishing graphic The One That Got Away!

Shari and James braved one of North Idaho's worst snow storms for the year to go steelhead fishing. She had been planning the trip for weeks and was not going to let a "little" snow stop her. Is that the Taurus coming out? She reported it took her 6 hours to get to the fishing hole and a lot of prayers. ( No she did not get a fish.)

A New Prairie Dog Club

Ariel and Micah along with Shari and her family are gearing up for 4-H. We started our own club named the Prairie Dogs and had our first meeting. Interestingly, the name was not authored by us, but by the mom of one of our other members.

Maddie's projects are sheep and photography. Sara's projects are goats and rabbits. James will raise a pig and also do photography and rabbits. I don’t know who is more excited about being in 4-H, Shari and Ariel or the kids!

Message From China
Cory has been busy with work, teaching English, celebrating the Chinese new year, going to Beijing, Dalian, and meeting new girlfriends.
The Chinese New Year is a fifteen day celebration. It is Year of the Horse. He says the fireworks are driving him a little nuts. People can get a little crazy here. The Chinese new year is like American 4th of July and Christmas all in one. They eat dumplings watch TV and talk. One of the customs is the young people go to the older people and bow to them 3 times then the older people give them money. This is very good.

Camping in a Snow Cave
Our Young Marines, Sara and James, spent a weekend at winter survival camp. James reported they had a cold but fun time.  They got to cook over an open fire and sleep in  snow caves they built but the real fun was playing Laser Tag.

stage graphic The Emperor's New Clothes

Micah recently began honing his thespian skills. He was asked to participate and was given a scholarship for a workshop in the Huckleberry Children’s Theatre. Our local playhouse is starting a Children’s Theatre where the kids learn all aspects of the theatre and put on productions. This workshop performed the Emperors New Clothes. It was a lot of fun and Micah played the part of Sir Ian of Inventory. He had about 8 lines on his own and another 9 with his partner Sir Ivan. They also sang 3 songs as a cast. Curtiss helped as usher during the weekend performance. He looked so handsome in his suit! Ariel helped backstage in the Green room shushing the kids and getting them on stage much to Micah’s embarrassment. Micah is looking forward to taking another workshop this summer. He said it is too hard to do acting and schoolwork at the same time. Mom agrees. These kids were at the theatre from 4 to 8 everyday and from 9 to 3 on the Friday, Saturday and Monday before the performance. They only had two weeks to get the show up and running! Everyone who saw it was very impressed.

Ariel’s Joke of the month bug graphic

A little boy tells his teach that he found a cat. “ Was it dead or alive? ”, the teacher asks. “Dead”, said the little boy. How do you know? ”, asked the teacher. The little boy answered, “ Well, I pissed in its ear and it didn’t move”. “You did what?” exclaimed the shocked teacher. The little boy then explained, “ I leaned over and went pssst in its ear and it didn’t move”.
